A smart budget option that still looks like wood
Today's laminate isn't the plasticky click-floor from years back. Modern AC4-rated laminate uses high-resolution printed wear layers and textured surfaces that read as real hardwood from across the room. MK Flooring installs laminate throughout Snohomish County for homeowners who want a wood look at a lower installed cost than solid or engineered hardwood.
It's a strong fit for busy family rooms, hallways, bedrooms, and basement bonus rooms where a tougher, more budget-friendly surface makes sense.

AC ratings - the spec that actually matters
The AC (Abrasion Class) rating tells you how well the wear layer holds up over time. We don't install anything below AC4 in Snohomish County homes.
- AC3 - light residential use only, not something we recommend for daily traffic areas
- AC4 - heavy residential grade, our default for most homes
- AC5 - a step up for entries, hallways, and higher-traffic rooms
- Water-resistant cores are available and worth considering for kitchens

How we install laminate without squeaks or peaking
Laminate is a floating floor, which means a flat, well-prepped subfloor is essential - skip that step and it will telegraph every dip and peak at the seams. We level the subfloor before install, use a quality underlayment with a vapor barrier over concrete, and leave the proper expansion gap around the perimeter, concealed by baseboard or quarter-round.
Every laminate install includes proper acclimation time on-site before installation begins, staggered end joints for strength, and color-matched transitions between rooms.

Laminate Flooring - frequently asked questions
No - laminate has a wood-fiber core with a printed wear layer, while vinyl plank has a plastic core and is fully waterproof. Laminate feels a bit harder underfoot but is more sensitive to standing water.
Water-resistant laminate can handle occasional spills reasonably well, but we generally recommend LVP instead for kitchens given how wet our winters get here.
AC4 laminate commonly lasts 15-20 years in a normal household. The wear layer doesn't sand or refinish - once it wears through, the plank is replaced.
Yes - removal and disposal of your existing floor is included in every laminate quote.
