Why engineered hardwood fits this climate so well
Engineered hardwood is real wood on top of a plywood core built to stay flat when humidity shifts - and in Snohomish County, humidity shifts a lot, from damp winters to drier summer stretches. That stability is exactly why MK Flooring recommends engineered hardwood for most concrete slabs, basements, and homes with radiant heat.
It looks and feels like solid wood underfoot, but the layered construction resists the cupping and gapping that can show up in solid hardwood installed in the wrong spot.

Where engineered hardwood is the right call
We recommend engineered over solid in a handful of common situations around Snohomish County.
- Homes on concrete slabs or with daylight basements
- Rooms with radiant floor heating
- Homes closer to the water where humidity tends to run higher
- Kitchens and other rooms with occasional moisture exposure
- Wider plank widths than solid wood typically allows

Species, widths, and finishes
Most engineered hardwood we install is oak, though maple, hickory, and walnut are also available. Plank widths run from a traditional 3" up to wider designer boards, and finishes range from a smooth clear coat to hand-scraped and wire-brushed textures. Bring us the board you're considering at the in-home estimate and we'll tell you how it will sit on your subfloor.

How we install it
Before any material goes down, we check your subfloor - moisture readings on concrete, a flatness check everywhere - and recommend floating, glue-down, or nail-down installation based on what will actually hold up. Every quote includes baseboard removal and reinstall, transitions between rooms, and removal of your existing floor.
